Statement

“Frederik Eckenheim plays with that, what we generally describe as ›beautiful‹. These are reflected in his finished works of art, as well as the creation process. The oxidation process is created by mixing natural metal pigments, together with acidic chemicals such as hydrochloric and sulfuric acid. This creates a natural process in which structures with strong colours occur. Furthermore, his works play with the contrast from distance and closeness. From afar, they seem smooth, concrete and tangible. Upon a closer look, however, new worlds open up as the seemingly smooth surface becomes cracked and carries the impression of how something new develops out of a decayed one. Within the interpolation of dissolution and new beginnings lies an extraordinary beauty. It surprises the observer with an ambivalence occurring through the softness and harmony from a distance, yet it is combined with the brutal decomposition process from up close. This special result will inevitably trigger amazement and fascination.”

Dieter Rippel, member of the district council of Upper Bavaria
Cultural Department of the City of Munich
